This Labor Day weekend, the Vibe & Thrive Tribe: College Edition came together for a powerful and intentional check-in—a space designed for honesty, growth, laughter, and holistic empowerment.
From the very beginning, the group was engaged through icebreakers that helped everyone relax, open up, and connect. One of the most impactful activities allowed participants to choose the word that held the highest value for them in this season of their lives. The two tables that filled quickly? Friendship and Education.
At the Education Table, students created anchor statements rooted in academic goals, affirmations about raising their GPAs, and action steps they will take to make those affirmations a reality.
At the Friendship Table, the group identified the values that make someone a great friend, brainstormed where on campus they could find peers who share those values, and set goals to remain open to building new, meaningful friendships.
🧠 Mental Health First Aid: Spotting Stress

A highlight of the session was our Mental Health First Aid mini-workshop, where we discussed:
How to recognize signs of stress—physically, emotionally, and behaviorally.
Using tools like the HALT check (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired).
Grounding strategies to reset when emotions feel overwhelming.
We also shared real, practical resources, including phone numbers and emails for campus counseling, mental health services, and academic support offices. This gave students tangible tools to reach out for help when needed, not just for themselves but also to support peers.
💬 Navigating Real College Life Challenges
Our dialogue was honest and powerful. Students expressed struggles with:
Adjusting to roommates with different morals, values, and habits.
Missing the closeness of longtime friends while seeking community at new campuses.
Balancing the temptation of parties and peer pressure with their personal goals and boundaries.

Through discussion and reflection, the group developed strategies for conflict resolution, maintaining balance, and staying grounded in their non-negotiables.
🌱 A Safe Space for Growth

Perhaps the most empowering takeaway was the realization that no one is alone. The check-in created a safe environment where students could be vulnerable, share openly, and feel supported in their challenges and triumphs.
We laughed, we reflected, we ate good food, and most importantly—we walked away empowered. Each student left with goals and anchor statements, and they are already motivated by the thought of celebrating together once those goals are met!
