One of the unexpected highlights of my recent trip to Milwaukee was stumbling across a place that once served as my personal sanctuary—the Half Price Books store. Back when I lived in Milwaukee, this store was more than a retail space; it was a refuge where I could lose track of time flipping through pages on self-help, spirituality, alternative healing, and even my old nursing school textbooks. It wasn’t just about buying books—it was about feeding my mind and soul.
I hadn’t been inside a Half Price Books since 2014, and the one I used to frequent had since closed. So imagine my joy when I randomly drove past a familiar sign glowing in the distance. My smile stretched ear to ear. The moment I walked in, it felt like no time had passed. Hours drifted by as I revisited that joy of learning, of being immersed in words and wisdom from so many different walks of life.
I was mindful not to get carried away this time—my suitcase had a 50-pound limit, after all! Still, I left with a few cherished titles and a heart full of gratitude.
Why am I sharing this moment? Because it reminded me how crucial intellectual wellness is to our holistic journey. It’s about more than formal education. It’s about curiosity. It’s about pursuing new ideas, expanding perspectives, and keeping the brain active and inspired—no matter your age or stage of life.
At Precious Holistic Touch LLC, we believe wellness is multifaceted. Intellectual wellness plays a powerful role in keeping us balanced, aware, and engaged with the world around us. Whether it’s reading a new book, learning a new skill, or revisiting something that once brought you joy—prioritize your growth.
Take a moment today to ask yourself:
When was the last time I learned something just because it interested me?
How do I feed my mind?
What areas of knowledge spark joy for me?
Never stop learning. Never stop growing. Your mind is a garden—nurture it
